Starting Counselling
Your counselling journey begins with an initial assessment. This gives us the opportunity to understand what has brought you to counselling, explore your needs and ensure that The Counselling Corner is the right service for you. It is also your chance to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable moving forward.
If our service is a good fit, we will carefully match you with the counsellor best suited to your needs. Counselling then takes place at your pace, providing a safe, confidential and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences and work towards positive change.
TCC's Ethos
The Counselling Corner is founded on the belief that everyone should have access to safe, ethical and affordable counselling. We provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where clients are treated with dignity, respect and compassion. Our service combines high professional standards with a commitment to making therapy more accessible through both qualified and trainee counsellors, all working within clear ethical guidelines and regular clinical supervision. We value diversity, individuality and the importance of a trusting therapeutic relationship. Our aim is to support every client with warmth, professionalism and integrity, helping them move towards greater emotional wellbeing and positive change.
About The Service
The Counselling Corner provides safe, ethical and affordable online counselling for adults in a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment. We believe everyone should have access to high-quality therapeutic support, regardless of their circumstances. Following an initial assessment, clients are matched with either a qualified counsellor or a carefully supervised placement counsellor, according to their needs. All our counsellors work within professional ethical guidelines and receive regular clinical supervision. We value dignity, respect, compassion and diversity, and are committed to building trusting therapeutic relationships that support clients towards greater emotional wellbeing and positive change.
Help right now
We understand that there may be times when you need support sooner than your next counselling session. If you are feeling overwhelmed or in emotional distress, please reach out to someone you trust or contact a service that can offer immediate support.
If you feel that you or someone else is at immediate risk of harm, please call 999 or attend your nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) department.
For urgent emotional support, you can also contact Samaritans on 116 123, available 24 hours a day, or speak to your GPor NHS 111 for advice.
Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength. You do not have to face difficult times alone, and support is available whenever you need it.
Online Therapy Starts Here
Online counselling offers a safe, convenient and effective way to access therapy from the comfort of your own home. Research shows it can be just as effective as face-to-face counselling for many people. It removes travel barriers, offers greater flexibility and allows clients to engage in therapy from an environment where they feel comfortable.
Compassion. Connection. Change.

Our placement counsellors are undertaking professional counselling qualifications and are committed to developing the knowledge, skills and self-awareness needed to become effective practitioners. Before seeing clients, they complete rigorous training and are carefully selected for placement.
All trainee counsellors work within an Ethical Framework and receive regular clinical supervision from experienced supervisors. They are fully supported throughout their placement and work within their level of competence, seeking guidance whenever needed.
Choosing a placement counsellor does not mean compromising on quality. Many clients value the time, care and commitment that trainees bring to the therapeutic relationship. Every client can be confident that their counsellor is supported by an experienced professional, ensuring safe, ethical and high-quality care throughout their counselling journey.
Our Counsellors

Starting counselling with The Counselling Corner is straightforward and supportive. Your first step is to complete our online assessment form, which gives us some initial information about you and the support you are looking for.
You will then have a 20 - 30-minute assessment with an experienced counsellor. This gives us the opportunity to understand what has brought you to counselling, explore your needs and make sure our service is right for you.
Following your assessment, we will match you with a counsellor who is suited to your needs and can offer a regular appointment at a time that works for you. This may be a qualified counsellor or one of our carefully supervised placement counsellors.
Your counselling sessions will be 50 minutes long and usually take place at the same time each week, providing consistency and a regular space that is dedicated to you. Payment is made one week before each session to secure your appointment.
If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, we require at least three working days' notice (Monday–Friday). We do not provide refunds for cancelled sessions. However, when the required notice has been given, your payment can be transferred to your next counselling session.
